When a whale, a wooden horse and a goddess meet in Vienna

View into the new hall of the Vienna Museum

Are you ready for your first tour of the new Wien Museum?

When do you ever have the opportunity to design a museum from scratch? The Wien Museum on Karlsplatz was given this opportunity and has made brilliant use of it. After four years of renovation, visitors have been able to enjoy a completely new museum experience since the beginning of December.

Visitors will be delighted to see old acquaintances such as the two magnificent city models. However, there are even more reasons to enjoy the various new objects. The central hall now houses the original figures of the Donnerbrunnen, the gala carriage of the controversial mayor Lueger and the giant whale Poldi from the Prater. A five and a half meter high model of St. Stephen's Cathedral also protrudes into the hall.

The new concept for the permanent exhibition is also impressive. It can now be viewed chronologically and without spatial interruption from the Bronze Age to the present day. "City windows" provide insights into the present in every era and in many places you are invited to actively participate and try things out.
