DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
SURPRISING DIVERSITY AND THE STRUGGLE FOR SOCIAL PARTICIPATION - VIENNA'S HISTORY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
How diverse was Vienna's society throughout history and how difficult was social participation for women and minorities? At the famous Griechenbeisl restaurant we discover surprising achievements of integration and timid attempts in dealing with tolerance. The history of St. Stephen's Cathedral from the Middle Ages to our own time is amazingly international. Our further walk through picturesque alleys gives us a deep insight into the challenges of women but also of people with disabilities on their way to social participation. At the Hofburg we deal with the glamorous court of the Habsburgs: a model of diversity or frighteningly intolerant? In Empress Elisabeth and Archduchess Sophie we encounter two female figures who could not be more different in their understanding of their roles and influence. The crowning finale of the tour belongs to the undisputed greatest ruler in the House of Habsburg: from health to education to foreign policy and the military, nothing remained untouched by Maria Theresa's impressive reforming spirit!
