CHANGE MANAGEMENT

That nothing is as constant as change is something we experience at every turn on this tour. We start at the Postsparkasse with one of Vienna's great change agents, Otto Wagner! What made him a "change agent"? On our way through the picturesque alleys of the old town, we learn how brutally people sometimes resist change - for example, the lighting of the city in the early modern period! The construction of St. Stephen's Cathedral has seen many changes of era. But over the centuries, the decision was not always easy: what to keep? What does one change?
Irony of fate: while Leopold I groaned under the many challenges of his time, such as the plague and the Ottoman siege, Joseph II later could not be quick enough with changes. With some strange ideas, he has overstretched the readiness of the Viennese for change. So what is the best way to approach a change process? The Sisi statue in the Volkspark is about the big philosophical question: what if? Was Empress Elisabeth the missed chance of a great change agent? At the Ring Avenue we philosophize further, about the very great transformations for society in the "Fin de Siècle". Who else knew about change? Maria Theresa, of course, as we learn impressively at the end.
