TIMELESS DESIGN, IMPERIAL BRANDING AND CREATIVE SPONSORING – A TOUR ALONG THE HISTORY OF SUCCESSFUL DESIGN AND BRANDING IN VIENNA

What actually is design? We start where people should know: in the Museumsquartier, not only home to various museums, but also to the Austrian Design Forum. Even the Habsburgs understood that clever branding can successfully set you apart from others. With creative family trees, prestigious orders and coats of arms, they made themselves into something very special. On our way from the imperial Hofburg through the city, we also encounter exclusive tailors who caused a tangible scandal with their business premises. By mistake or in the end on purpose? Two other well-known traditional brands also had to fight for their positioning. We get to the bottom of the stubbornness of former owners and the challenges these brands face today. With clever sponsoring, another brand managed to use Vienna's most famous landmark as its logo: St. Stephen's Cathedral! All just a question of corporate identity? Finally, at the Danube Canal, we realize with surprise that even the architect Otto Wagner knew how to protect his brand.
