BLACKMAIL, WASTE AND BANKRUPTCY – AN EXCITING FINANCIAL TOUR THROUGH THE HISTORY OF VIENNA!
Kidnapping and blackmailing among princes: the beginning of Vienna as a residential city in the Middle Ages feels like an exciting thriller! We start at St. Stephen's Cathedral and learn there why the north tower of the cathedral remained unfinished. We see the same fate later with the glorious imperial Hofburg palace. The early Habsburgs were chronically short of money - but is borrowing from rich merchants a good idea? At the famous Cafe Central, we explore turbulent times and understand why the Austrian National Bank was founded.
How did Maria-Theresia later actually get money and quite delicately: what did she spend it on? Guests who don't want to leave cost money, Emperor Franz had to realize that during the Congress of Vienna. The tour ends at the magnificent Heroes’ Square and with the construction of the ring road. But even here we quickly realize: in the end it's always about Finance!
